1th July 2006 - 30th June 2008
In July 2006, Uli Forte began his professional career as a manager with the former Nationalliga A team FC Wil 1900, leading them to the semifinal of the Swisscom Cup in his very first season. In recognition of this performance, his team was awarded the title of Swisscom Cup Team of the Year at the "Nacht des Schweizer Fußballs" (“Night of Swiss Football”) awards in Bern.
In the second season, he achieved an outstanding third place with the team – just two points shy of promotion and one point below entry into the Axpo Super League. Forte also trained a multitude of FC Wil players who then made the jump into the Super League or even international teams. These included Moustapha Salifou (Aston Villa FC), Moreno Costanzo (FC St. Gallen, BSC Young Boys), Elsad Zverotic (FC Luzern, BSC Young Boys), Samel Sabanovic (Grasshopper Club Zürich), Lukas Schenkel (FC St. Gallen), Jacopo Ravasi (FC Luzern), Jérôme Thiesson (AC Bellinzona, FC Luzern) and Silvio (FC Zürich, FC Lugano, Union Berlin).
